The University of Malaya Malaysian Centre of Regulatory Studies (UMCoRS) is pleased to invite you to a 2-Day workshop on Quality and Intellectual Property for Regulatory Professionals by three distinguished speakers who will share their extensive knowledge and expertise with participants.

 
IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FOR REGULATORS

Quality and Intellectual Property [IP] is becoming increasingly complex due to various new legislations, notifications and market milieu. Many of today’s fastest growing industries, such as biotechnology, computer software, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing depend on protecting intellectual property for their continued existence. Therefore, the role of regulators to optimise benefits for all its stakeholders while simultaneously protecting the interests of consumers is becoming more daunting and challenging, due to challenges presented by evolving market and technological developments, especially attributable to the increasing influence of intellectual property.

In order to encourage innovation, protect intellectual property, improve quality and be in compliance to its obligation with the WTO, regulatory professionals in both well entrenched and emerging sectors need to have awareness on the issues related to quality and IP and its strategies both on national and international levels.

  1. Professor Eur Ing Muthu Singaram, BEng, CEng , MIET , MBA, Chief Education Officer, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, SMOT The Business School, Chennai, India. He was responsible for developing the Malaysian National Uniprenuer Development Programme (NUDP) at the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC) and was also a council member for the National Incubator Network. Muthu has mentored, consulted and facilitated participants from many parts of the world, these include companies like British Telecom, Institute of Public Administration Malaysia, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, Malaysian Employers Federation, Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation, The National Productivity Corporation, Malaysian International Chamber Of Commerce and Industry, The Institute of Leadership & Management (UK), Management Concept Asia Pacific, Shell, ExonMobile, DHL and others.

  2. Mr Nandakumar, Chief Executive Officer, PQMDC, is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering and has over 22 years experience in various quality improvement initiatives in many reputed manufacturing and service establishments in India, Japan, Europe and USA. He is associated with PQ Systems, Australia since 2001 and has conducted various training programmes focused on quality improvement. Nanda is a black belt in Six Sigma and has a passion for quality and productivity improvements. He currrently facilitates many six sigma improvement teams in various manufacturing and service organizations. He is also the lead faculty for the six sigma green belt programmes conducted by MSME-DI, Chennai. Ashok Leyland, Caparo, CUMI, Delphi TVS, Douceur Fashions, Foxconn, Igarashi Motors, IP Rings, Rane TRW, Saint Gobain, Sundaram Clayton, Sundram Fasteners, Wabco TVS, and Veecare Hospital are some of his clients.
     
  3. Dr. Sudhir Ravindran, Attorney-At-Law, Solicitor (England & Wales) serves as the Principal of GBS- Legal and CEO of Altacit Global, Strategic Consultants. He practices International and Intellectual Property Law, advising leading Indian Corporate clients. Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras, India and Masters in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick. A law graduate with Bachelor of Laws from the University of Bangalore, India and Masters of Law, from the School of Law, University of Warwick. Dr. Sudhir Ravindran has had varied specialised education in IP from World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Geneva, NALSAR University - India, IIM Lucknow , India and IIM Ahmedabad , India. He has also successfully completed the Intellectual Property Specialization Program jointly offered by the University of South Africa (UNISA), South Africa & WIPO and received fellowship for the JPO/IPR Training Course for Patent Experts conducted by the Japan Patent Office and Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation. He is a representative of ICC India in the Commission on Intellectual Property of ICC, Paris, France and an Individual Observer of the Intellectual Property Constituency of ICANN. A regular speaker/guest lecturer in several universities, national and international conferences. He had been awarded a Doctorate (PhD) in Intellectual Property Risk Management from NALSAR University, Hyderabad, India. He is currently pursuing his post doctoral research (LLD) from the Andhra Pradesh University of Law.
